In
the fifth instalment of the Moonshine Task Force, in this book we delve into
Mason ‘Menace’ Harrison character.
Menace
has been a single dad for the last seventeen years, raising his son Caleb.
Making the much-needed sacrifices that all single parents make. Now that his
son is in his final year off high school, Mason is ready to find someone to
share his dreams.
Enter
Karina Holland.
Karina
Holland is an English teacher at the local high school, who has decided to take
a risk and join a dating app. Through the app she meets Mason. They experience
one smoking hot night of passion.
What
Karina didn’t expect was for Mason to be the father off a pupil she teachers.
When
I first started reading the Moonshine Task Force series, I was intrigued to see
where Laramie Briscoe would take Menace’s character. She portrays him as a
strong single father who is trying to raise his somewhat off the rails son. In
Menace she finds an equally strong female character who can offer the support
and comfort that both Mason and Caleb haven’t had in there lives before.
I
thoroughly enjoyed the relationship between Mason and Karina. Their chemistry
was instant and very well written. Although their relationship does develop
quickly, you can feel the love that they have for each other.
What
I also enjoyed about this book was the relationship off Mason and Caleb. In the
previous books from the series, their relationship is tested by Caleb’s
rebellious behaviour. This book picks up around a year after Caleb’s antics and
you get to experience the love and respect that both characters have for each
other. Caleb knows what sacrifices Mason gave up when he chooses to raise him as
a single parent.
I
have to say the friendship that develops between Karina and Caleb was sweet to
read. Caleb is very welcoming and absorbs Karina’s attention like a sponge.
There was no over stepping by Karina and you got to experience Caleb having a reliable
female figure in his life, something that was unusual for him. It added an
element to the story that enriched the story.
It
is worth reading the previous books in the series, if you haven’t already done
so, just to get the background stories off the intertwining characters. But its
not necessary if you choose not to, you would still be able to follow Karina
and Mason’s relationship.
I
can’t wait for the next instalment off the Moonshine Task Force, Caleb! I can
only imagine where Laramie Briscoe is going to go with this character.
